Afterwards, travel to Ferryland where you can take a guided tour of the archaeological site at the Colony of Avalon, first home of Lord Baltimore. It is one of the best preserved  sites of early European settlement in British North America . We recommend you pay the fee for the guided tour and admission to the museum where you can see how elegantly the first settlers in Newfoundland lived!   Hike another path of the East Coast Trail from the Colony of Avalon out to Ferryland Head lighthouse and back to your car.

More helpful hints

Remember that you can get direct flights to St. John's, (with an apostrophe s)  Newfoundland from Halifax, Montreal and Toronto. Depending where you are coming from, you might get better connections via different routes.

If you are trying to use Aeroplan (or other) travel points, you might not get yourself all the way to St. John's Newfoundland on points but if you can get as far as Halifax, Montreal or Toronto, you might save again on your overall airfare.

For folks from Europe, don't forget about ZOOM Airlines  they can get you to Halifax, and then you can get local airfare, and again save on your overall travel costs
.Astraeus Airlines  provide direct, year-round service from St. John’s International Airport to London’s Gatwick Airport.

Also, don't forget the multi-destination feature when you are booking your flights, this could again save you precious time on your holiday.  You don't need to backtrack if you arrive in St. John's and depart from Deer Lake.
